Frequently Asked Questions with Answers!

Q:  Who can get a tree?

A: Community groups in unincorporated Orange County.

Q:  What kind of trees do you offer?

A:  There are eight street and shade trees used in the Streetscape program. Click on this link to see the trees currently used.

Q:  Can I select the tree that goes in front of my home?

A:  Streetscape staff will select the trees based upon soils, the master plan, theme and availability.

Q:  Where will the tree be located?

A:  In the row area, which is the space between the walk and the curb.

Q:  I want to only landscape the community retention ponds.  Can I do that?

A:  No.  The Roads and Drainage Division do not allow trees in the retention ponds because of the difficulty in maintaining them and the grass.

Q:  How many trees can I reserve?

A:  We average 1 tree for each lot unless it's a corner lot which may get 3 or 4 trees.

Q:  Will the county plant and maintain the tree(s) for me?

A:  No.  Each homeowner adopts the tree and will plant and maintain it.

Q:  But I don't know how to plant trees!

A:  Streetscape is both a beautification and an educational program under the Orange County Cooperative Extension. We will train the community prior to planting.

Q:  What if only a few people in my community want a tree?

A:  We request that 75% of the community who don't have trees participate.  If only 50 homes out of a possible 100 homes adopt a tree, we will wait until we get 75 homes participating.

Q:  I work on Saturdays, the day you plant the trees.  Can I still get one?

A:  Yes, but only if you adopt the tree and agree to take care of it until it becomes established.
